Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

The Department of Surgery at Danbury Hospital offers a growing number of state-of-the-art minimally invasive and computer-assisted (robotic) surgical procedures.

Minimally invasive surgery involves the use of the most cutting-edge video and surgical equipment, allowing patients to undergo surgery with less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery periods. Surgeons use very small incisions, meaning less trauma to the body, less blood loss, smaller scars and a lower need for pain medication.

Minimally invasive surgery at Danbury Hospital is performed both on an inpatient and outpatient basis in many of our surgical specialties.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Our surgeons have been recognized for excellence in laparoscopic techniques performed in many surgical specialties including weight loss, colorectal, and general surgical procedures.

Computer-assisted or Robotic Surgery

Robotic or computer-assisted surgery is a specialized form of minimally invasive surgery. The robotic system used at Danbury Hospital is called the da Vinci Surgical System, which consists of two mechanical arms, a camera, a 3-D image processing system and a remote control unit.

The da Vinci Surgical System does not place a robot or computer in control of your surgery; your surgeon is controlling every aspect of your surgery at all times. The precision of the robotic system gives surgeons better vision, maneuverability and control. This extends the benefits of laparoscopic and other minimally invasive surgeries to procedures that were once only performed with open surgery.
