Chairman Pierre F. Saldinger M.D. to join the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery's Editorial Board

Pierre F. Saldinger, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Danbury Hospital and the first Carmen Lucia and Peter Buck Endowed Chair in Surgical Oncology was recently invited to join the editorial board of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery by John L. Cameron, M.D., the journal’s editor.
As a member of the editorial board, Dr. Saldinger will conduct peer-reviews of submitted manuscripts in his field of expertise for publication in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
The Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal that updates the surgeon on the latest development in gastrointestinal surgery, and includes articles on surgery of the digestive tract, subject review, book reports, editorial columns, articles by a guest orator, results of conference and more. The journal functions as a forum for continuing education in surgery and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Dr. Saldinger specializes in surgery for benign and cancerous diseases of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas, and minimally invasive surgery for an increasing number of procedures. He joined the Danbury Hospital medical staff in 2001 as chief of general surgery.
Dr. Saldinger was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and was surgical director of the Liver and Gastrointestinal Cancer Program at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. An author and co-author of numerous papers and book chapters on the treatment of liver and bile duct cancers and the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer, Dr. Saldinger has conducted research in minimally invasive therapies for gastrointestinal cancers.
He received his medical degree from the University of Bern School of Medicine in Switzerland, and completed his surgical training at the University Hospital in Bern and at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Saldinger completed a research fellowship in mucosal immunology of Helicobacter Pylori at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and a clinical fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
