Screening and Testing

Praxair Cancer Center

Screening, testing, and other prevention strategies are important in the fight against cancer. Used correctly, these can help reduce your cancer risk or aid in early detection, so that cancer is identified in its early stages when treatments are most effective. For example, early stage breast cancer has cure rates close to 100%.

Danbury Hospital offers the following screening, testing, and prevention resources:

  • Colonoscopies, which can detect and remove pre-cancerous polyps
  • Information about The Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, which uses state resources to help provide cancer screening and prevention options for women who are uninsured or underinsured
  • Genetic testing and counseling, for individuals with a family or personal history of cancer
  • Mammography, and breast ultrasound which can aid in the early detection of breast cancer as well as breast MRI for women at high risk for breast cancer
  • Our “Quit Now” program, which teaches you practical strategies for smoking cessation to help reduce your risk of lung cancer
  • Skin Cancer Screenings (which are free) are held annually in May by our dermatologists

It’s important to undergo screenings regularly, according to the guidelines that apply to you. If you are considered a high-risk individual because of a family or personal history, talk to your doctor to see if there are additional steps you should take.
