Annual National Cancer Survivor' s Day
Western Connecticut Health Network, in partnership with Ann's Place, The Home of I CAN and the American Cancer Society is pleased to invite our cancer survivors along with a guest to this year's Annual National Cancer Survivors Day. Join us for a morning that celebrates you!
A "cancer survivor" is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer - from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.
Enjoy a lovely morning breakfast with friends, make new connections and laugh along with our featured and returning speaker, Dr. Dan Shapiro.
Dan Shapiro, Ph.D. is the Garner James Kline Professor of Humanities in Medicine and Chair of the Department of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine. Dr. Shapiro earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Florida and went on to Harvard Medical School where he completed an internship and an endowed post-doctoral fellowship.
He has been featured on national TV and in numerous publications. He is also a consultant to the hit television show "Grey's Anatomy" and was consultant previously for "Private Practice." Dr. Shapiro has written three books: "Moms Marijuana, Delivering Doctor Amelia, and his newest, And in Health, A Guide for Couples Facing Cancer Together. Having beaten Hodgkin's Lymphoma in his twenties, and been the caregiver to his wife, who had a serious breast cancer, he's been on both sides of the bed. Realizing how difficult it is to be in either position, he researched how couples respond. The result of that work is his most recent book. It is also the topic of his speech for cancer survivors and caregivers, which he delivers, as always, in a very entertaining way.
