The medical staff includes fellowship-trained surgeons in gynecologic oncology, advanced pelvic surgery and gynecologic robotic surgery as well as the region’s only urogynecologist specializing in pelvic reconstructive surgery and anti-incontinence procedures.

Coordinated Surgical Care

Our coordinated, multidisciplinary approach often involves the expertise of gynecologists, urogynecologists and reconstructive surgery specialists along with specially trained nurses, surgical technicians and specialists from departments throughout the hospital.

The multidisciplinary team includes:

  • Gynecologists
  • Urogynecologists
  • Reconstructive surgery specialists
  • Specially trained nurses
  • Surgical technicians
  • Additional medical specialists as needed

Our experts are dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to patients who require:

  • Complex benign pelvic surgery, including urinary incontinence, fibroids, pelvic organ prolapses and adnexal masses.
  • Treatment for known or suspected cancer of the female genital tract, including cancers of the cervix, endometrium, ovary, fallopian tube and peritoneal cancers, gestational trophoblastic disease, vagina and vulva.

Advanced Surgical Techniques

Women have access to surgeons skilled in state-of-the-art surgical techniques, such as:

  • Minimally Invasive Surgery  With the use of miniature video cameras and advanced surgical equipment, surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to operate with small incisions. This results in less pain, smaller scars, shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to normal activities. Our surgeons are recognized for excellence in the use laparoscopic techniques.
  • Gynecological Robotic Surgery  Some gynecological procedures involve the use of robotic-assisted technology, a specialized form of minimally invasive surgery. Danbury Hospital has the da Vinci Surgical System for robotic-assisted surgery which allows our surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures that were traditionally only performed with open surgery.
  • Gynecological Cancer The Gynecological Cancer Program in the Praxair Cancer Center provides a higher level of care with a multidisciplinary medical staff that includes a surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic oncology and cancer research.
  • Urogynecology Experts in female urology and urogynecology specializing in pelvic reconstruction surgery and robotic-assisted urologic surgery can treat conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence using minimally invasive techniques.
