Procedures

Our fellowship-trained surgeons do 100 percent of procedures laparascopically. We offer three different bariatric approaches: Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), which remains the gold standard of bariatric surgery; laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding; and the recently introduced laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy:

  • RYGB - Achieves weight loss by restricting food intake to as little as two ounces in a permanent pouch created surgically in the upper stomach and with bypass of the majority of the stomach and part of the small intestine.
  • Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding - An inflatable silicone band is placed around the top of the stomach to restrict food intake.
  • Gastric Sleeve Surgery - In this procedure, more than half the stomach is removed laparoscopically and a sleeve-like pouch is created in what remains. This both restricts food intake and reduces the appetite stimulant ghrelin.
