Danbury Hospital Hosts First Spirit of Women Day of Dance at the Danbury Fair Mall

Danbury Hospital’s “Spirit of Women Day of Dance” will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 12 noon to 4 p.m., at the Danbury Fair Mall in Center Court (lower level). With the theme “Dance Your Health Out!, in recognition of National Heart Month, the heart healthy day is filled with upbeat musical entertainment and dance styles that have been popular through the decades, including: ballroom, Latin, country and more. A variety of health and wellness information and screenings also will be offered and dedicated to your good health.

“Danbury Hospital’s Spirit of Women Day of Dance focuses on promoting cardiovascular health by reinforcing awareness of the dangers of heart disease,” says Denise Cocozza, coordinator of Danbury Hospital’s Spirit of Women program. “The event offers education on prevention, a variety of health screenings, and showcases dance as a fun way to exercise and be active.” Danbury Hospital’s “Dance Your Health Out!” also features healthy nutritional tips and food demonstrations by Celebrity Chef George Stella, a professional chef for over twenty-five years, who has appeared on numerous television and news shows. The chef, now a bestselling author and motivational speaker who once weighed in at 465 pounds, will share his very personal and inspirational weight loss story.

Danbury Hospital Spirit of Women Day of Dance Highlights

Local dance groups from Arthur Murray Studios, Fred Astaire Studio of Ridgefield, Ridgefield Fitness Club, and the Western Connecticut State University Dance Team will perform and invite the crowd to participate in a variety of dance styles that have been popular through decades of our lives, including the lindy hop, hustle, zumba, hip-hop, ballroom and more. Dancing will take place in segments on Saturday, February 27th during the 12 to 4 p.m. time frame, and health screening and risk assessments (blood pressure, cholesterol, vascular, weight, bone and joint health) will occur simultaneously.

Spirit of Women – Day of Dance is hosted by Danbury Hospital, a member of the Spirit of Women Hospital Network, with support provided by the Danbury Fair, Danbury Mall retailers, and other local business sponsors.
