Danbury Hospital Praxair Cancer Center Receives Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons, the national accreditation organization for cancer programs, has granted its 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award to the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital. The award was given to a select group of 82 (6 percent) accredited cancer programs across the United States.
“Achieving this award demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards of practice for our cancer program, the comprehensive services we provide and the support for our patients and families as they deal with the complexities of cancer treatment,” said Robert Kloss, M.D., Chairman of the Cancer Committee at The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital.
Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. Its membership includes Fellows of the American College of Surgeons and representatives of 47 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of cancer care. There are currently about 1400 CoC-accredited cancer programs in the United States that diagnose and/or treat 80 percent of all newly diagnosed cancer patients each year. Receiving care at a CoC-accredited cancer program ensures that a patient will have access to the full quality spectrum of comprehensive cancer care close to home.
