Advanced Technology to Serve the Region

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - New Milford, CT

New Milford Hospital has made investments in several key technologies to ensure high-quality care for patients undergoing radiologic testing for a variety of health issues and concerns.  These advanced capabilities offer greater safety higher quality images and shorter treatment times.  In partnership with Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital is committed to making these technologies more accessible to all.

A new open-bore MRI features a shorter length bore, which allows the patient’s head and feet to be outside the bore during most exams.  The MRI is ideal for patients who are claustrophobic, and for larger patients (up to 500 lbs.).

Additionally, a new 64-slice low-dose CT scanner reduces radiation exposure by up to 40%, while producing higher quality images with faster scanning times.

Another new upgrade at New Milford Hospital is the linear accelerator, which offers more precision and greater comfort for patients with cancer and neurological diseases.  This versatile system delivers a wide variety of cancer radiation treatments quickly (in 2 minutes or less).  With the technology known as image-guided radiotherapy, the linear accelerator pinpoints a tumor and positions the patient with ease and speed.  The linear accelerator also uses IMRT (intensity modulated radiation therapy), which structures the treatment dose to spare healthy tissue.
