Dr. Numan Gharaibeh Takes Leadership Role in Behavioral Health

New Milford Hospital announces the appointment of Numan Gharaibeh, MD as Medical Director of the New Milford Hospital Behavioral Health Services. Dr. Gharaibeh (pronounced ga•Rye•bay) brings extensive training and experience to this program, and has been a member of the Department of Psychiatry at Danbury Hospital since 2009.

He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College and University of Vermont. He previously worked with the CT State Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS), The Department of Psychiatry/College of Medicine at the University of Arizona, and the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital.

A graduate of Jordan University of Science and Technology (1990), he trained at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center and New York Medical College, where he was awarded the Dr. Belle Stoch’s Award for Academic Excellence (1996). In 1997 he completed a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Harvard Program of Psychiatry and the Law, Harvard Medical School.

In his role as Medical Director, Dr. Gharaibeh is working with a multidisciplinary team including APRNs, social workers and a clinical psychologist to enhance and expand the behavioral health programs that have served the community successfully over the years for adults, adolescents, and children. He is presently developing additional psychotherapy groups and peer support groups to compliment the outpatient program already in place at the center.

Dr. Gharaibeh’s appointment is an example of how the affiliation between New Milford and Danbury Hospitals benefits the community served. There was a gap in services available due to this vacant position.
