Danbury Hospital announces the recent appointment of David Charash, D.O., as Medical Director of the Wound Care Center at the Hospital’s Robert J. and Pamela Morganti Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.

Board certified in Emergency Medicine and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, Dr. Charash is a graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internship and residency respectively in emergency medicine at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

It is estimated that nearly 5 million Americans suffer from chronic wounds, including those that are the result of diabetes, lower extremity arterial disease, lower extremity venous disease, edema, pressure ulcers, traumatic injuries, and other medical conditions, according to the National Alliance for Wound Care, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and promotion of excellence in wound care.

“Current advances in wound care therapy help heal wounds faster,” said Dr. Charash. “Hyperbaric oxygen therapy speeds up the wound healing process, and quicker healing significantly reduces the rate of amputation in diabetics.”

The Wound Care Center is comprised of a team of clinical professionals with advanced training in wound management and hyperbaric medicine, an advance practice nurse practitioner (APRN) who oversees clinic services and provides patient treatment, other nurses with specialized chronic wound care training, and technicians experienced in performing non-invasive studies and various therapies.

The Morganti Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine also includes nutritional assessment and counseling, patient and caregiver counseling, diabetes education, pain management and special supplies and equipment to relieve pressure from wounds.
