Danbury Hospital Named Top 100 Hospital By US News and World Report
Publication also ranks Danbury Hospital #2 in Connecticut and TOP 20 for Teaching Hospital
Michael Daglio, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, is proud to announce that Danbury Hospital has been named a TOP 100 HOSPITAL by US News and World Report. The designation also ranked the Hospital second highest in Connecticut for quality and care provided noting high-performance in the areas of Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Urology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Ear, Nose and Throat Care. The hospital scored high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes. According to the magazine, the central mission of Best Hospitals is to help those who need an unusual degree of skilled inpatient care decide where to get that care while other rankings typically examine how well hospitals do for routine care.
“We are very pleased to receive this award and ranking. I see firsthand the quality of care provided by physicians and staff, the attention to safety and the personal investment our team makes each and every day in caring for our patients,” said Daglio. The award also includes a TOP 20 HOSPITAL recognition for medium-sized hospitals with teaching programs.
Importance for Consumers and Patients
Danbury Hospital has published its quality and safety outcomes at DanburyHospital.org for several years with the philosophy that patients should be informed partners in their care. Chief Medical Officer Matthew Miller, MD stated, “This ranking is a testament to how our physicians and staff work together on quality and safety to benefit our patients. This information, coupled with open communication between patient and physician will go a long way to an optimal patient experience and the best possible health outcome.”
Award and Ranking Methodology
The ranking methodology as explained by US News and World Reports is thorough and includes several facets. The magazine surveyed nearly 10,000 specialists and sifted through Medicare data for approximately 5,000 hospitals to rank the best in 16 adult specialties. Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered. Hospitals were also screened to include weighting those hospitals taking on the very toughest cases in a particular specialty. Hospitals also had to meet a threshold of volume in a specialty area to be ranked.
Hospitals that are either nationally ranked or high-performing in at least one specialty are recognized as Best Regional Hospitals. Danbury Hospital was ranked high-performing in five specialty areas. It also ranked above the state and national average for the percent of patients who stated they would recommend the hospital to friends and family.
