Danbury Hospital Praxair Cancer Center Offers Skin Cancer Screenings in June

Friday, May 25, 2012 - Danbury, CT

Danbury Hospital Praxair Cancer Center

As part of Danbury Hospital’s commitment to provide a higher level of care and improve the health and well-being of those we serve, the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital will offer a free skin cancer screening on Tuesday, June 19th and Wednesday, June 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. The skin cancer screenings will be conducted by Western Connecticut Health Network affiliated dermatologists and other clinical and allied health staff. Screening registration takes place on a first-come, first-served basis; closing each evening at 7:45 p.m. Screening participants must park in the Red Parking Garage on Locust Avenue, and enter through the Stroock Building, first floor Main Entrance.

As we begin gearing up for summer time fun, it’s a great time to start thinking about ways to avoid the risk of too much sun exposure. Frequent, unprotected sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for most skin cancers, including melanoma.

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, one American dies of melanoma almost every hour. With early detection, melanoma has an almost 100 percent five year survival rate. We invite you to choose skin health by having your skin examined for skin cancer by a dermatologist, encourage others to get screened for skin cancer, use sunscreen regularly and practice skin self exams monthly.
