Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - Danbury, CT

Announces New Hours for All Outpatient Lab Locations

As part of Western Connecticut Health Network's commitment to a higher level of care, a new outpatient laboratory Patient Service Center will open in the Mountain Laurel Plaza, 68 Stony Hill Road (Route 6) in Bethel, on October 1. This is the sixth outpatient location offered by the network to make laboratory services conveniently available to patients of Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital and their affiliated physicians. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. This new site offers ample, free parking and convenient hours to serve the community, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM-4 PM. For appointments at this and all locations, call 203-739-4999.

The new Patient Service Center is convenient for residents of Danbury, Bethel and Newtown, and features highly skilled staff offering comprehensive outpatient laboratory services to patients and physicians throughout the region. Other Patient Service Centers and new hours include:

Services performed at the Patient Service Centers include phlebotomy (blood drawing) and specimen collection for a wide range of analysis and testing. A physician's lab test order can be faxed, electronically transmitted or hand carried to the center.

Western Connecticut Health Network performs more than 2.3 million laboratory tests on human blood and tissue samples annually. For the small percentage of testing that requires additional expertise, the laboratory provides physicians with access to reference lab information and support from Mayo Clinic, offering the most advanced laboratory expertise available anywhere.

Health care is moving at an increasingly fast pace, and patients are moving in many directions; which is why we are integrating laboratory services across Danbury and New Milford hospitals, and in communities throughout the region," said Paul Fiedler, MD, the chairman of laboratory medicine.

Beginning in 2011, the network affiliated with Mayo Medical Laboratories, the reference laboratory for Mayo Clinic headquartered in Rochester, Minnesota, whose medical practice and medical research group specialize in the diagnosis and treatment for difficult patients. While Western Connecticut Health Network performs expert assessment for 97 percent of its laboratory testing right here in Connecticut, the remainder go to Mayo Clinic when additional scientific evaluation is necessary.
