The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital Offers Free Skin Cancer Screenings

As part of Danbury Hospital's commitment to improve the health and well-being of those we serve, the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital will offer a free skin cancer screening on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 and Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. Skin cancer screenings will be performed by Western Connecticut Health Network affiliated dermatologists and other clinical and allied health staff. Screening registration takes place on a first-come, first-served basis; closing at 7:45 p.m. both nights. Screening participants are asked to park in the Red Parking Garage on Locust Avenue and enter through the Stroock Building Main Entrance.

Skin cancer screening is encouraged if you never had your skin checked for skin cancer, don’t have insurance, have a high deductible for a dermatology visit, or want to learn more about prevention or recognizing skin cancer.

Risk Factors for Skin Cancer

  • Fair skin that freckles or burns easily
  • Blond or red hair, blue/green/gray eyes
  • A personal or family history of skin cancer
  • High sun exposure, multiple sunburns especially at an early age
  • Use of tanning beds or sun lamps
  • High number of moles

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. It is treatable if found early, making early detection so very important. Take advantage of the opportunity to benefit from this preventive health screening conducted by board-certified dermatologists and help us encourage others to get screened for skin cancer, use sunscreen regularly and practice skin self-exams monthly.
