Groundbreaking: New Emergency Department at New Milford Hospital
More than 100 community leaders, government officials and donors joined Hospital leaders and members of the Arnhold family today for the ceremonial groundbreaking on a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department at New Milford Hospital. After years of planning, the community toasted the beginning of this thirteen-month project that will be named the Arnhold Emergency Department.
"We are committed to deliver the best in emergency medical care to our community," shared Deborah Weymouth, Network Senior Vice President and Executive Director of New Milford Hospital. "Thanks to the generosity of the Arnhold family and all of our donors, generations will be able to rely on the Emergency Department of New Milford."
"We are pleased to support this important project and the continued safety of our friends and neighbors in New Milford and nearby communities," says John Arnhold. "Our commitment is an investment in the community that will provide timely, convenient and exceptional care for every patient in need."
The new Emergency Department, expected to be completed by the end of 2014, will double in size to and serve more than 20,000 patients each year. This new state-of-the art 11,000 square feet facility, will feature a larger, more efficient triage room, state-of-the-art technology (including the most advanced low-dose 64-slice CT scanner), a centralized nursing station for direct oversight of patient rooms, a new decontamination area, dedicated pediatric, behavioral health and critical care rooms, and improved parking.
Tom Koobatian, M.D., Chief of Staff and Director of Emergency Medicine at New Milford Hospital, adds that the new space will dramatically enhance privacy for patients and their families. "All patients will have private rooms, so noise and conversations will not be overheard by neighboring patients. Patients won't experience the sounds and smells that can make people uncomfortable when there is just a curtain between them. Attention has also been paid to ensure everything is geriatric accessible and pediatric friendly."
Through its Imagine Build Transform campaign, WCHN is reimagining and expanding facilities to increase access to high quality care and ensure that it always responsive to patients' needs. The campaign's priorities include significant investments in facilities, research and technologies at Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital and the WCHN Biomedical Research Institute.
"We are exceedingly grateful to the Arnhold Family who is helping to make our dream for improved emergency care in New Milford a reality," says John M Murphy, M.D., President and CEO, WCHN. "This significant gift, along with the generosity of other donors, signals a new era of philanthropy in health care, as more people choose to invest in the future of their local facilities. Thanks to our donors, we can continue to imagine new ways to deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time."
