Supports New Emergency Department and Patient Tower

Danbury Hospital has received a $100,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to support construction of the Hospital's new Emergency Department (ED) and Patient Tower. Scheduled for completion in the spring, the expansion project is the largest in Danbury Hospital's history. The grant will name the ED's new William Randolph Hearst Foundation Triage Waiting Area.

"The William Randolph Hearst Foundation is pleased to join with many other donors in the construction of the new Patient Tower at Danbury Hospital," said George B. Irish, Eastern Director of The Hearst Foundations, who toured the Patient Tower last fall. "The Hospital's leadership has been committed to compassionate care for the 350,000 residents of Western Connecticut and neighboring New York. This project expands that commitment of service."

The new 40,000-square-foot ED, located at the base of the Patient Tower, will nearly double the size of the current facility and contain 68 all-private patient treatment rooms, new triage areas to streamline admissions and reduce patient wait times, and an eight-bed "fast track" area to serve the medical needs of patients with less severe conditions. The ED will also contain four new trauma rooms and a dedicated pediatric emergency care center.

"We deeply appreciate the William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s support of the new ED and Patient Tower," said Grace Linhard, Chief Development Officer of the WCHN Foundation. "Their generosity will have lasting impact on hundreds of thousands of lives in the community, a region served by the Hearst Connecticut Media Group."
