A Kind Heart and Generous Gift: Nine-Year-Old from Washington Montessori School Donates Birthday Gifts to Pediatric Patients

Thursday, July 10, 2014 - Danbury, CT

Western Connecticut Health Network Foundation: Kids Care Club

When a family member asked nine-year-old Jonas Veleas if he would like to donate his birthday gifts this year to children who are in the hospital, he immediately said yes! Veleas, who just finished third grade at Washington Montessori School (New Preston, CT), donated an assortment of toys, books, board games and stuffed animals he received on his birthday and delivered them to the Pediatric Floor at Danbury Hospital.

Veleas' donation will be used by pediatric patients at Danbury Hospital. Chief Development Officer Grace Linhard said "A day spent in a hospital can seem especially long for a child. The generous gifts from Jonas will help pass the time and give hospitalized children something fun to do."

As a result of his kind-hearted generosity to pediatric patients at Danbury Hospital, Veleas has been inducted into Danbury Hospital's Kids Care Club, a philanthropic program for children under the age of 18.

About Kids Care Club

The Kids Care Club at Western Connecticut Health Network encourages children under the age of 18 to make donations in support of pediatric programs and services at Danbury Hospital and/or New Milford Hospital. Donations help purchase toys, videos/movies, video games and systems, and more to make children's hospital stays more comfortable. Children raise funds in many ways, including: asking friends and family for donations; organizing penny drives, lemonade stands, or other events; raising funds in lieu of birthday gifts; or donating a portion of their allowance.
