Western Connecticut Health Network Celebrates Annual National Cancer Survivors Day® on June 1st
Western Connecticut Health Network - Danbury and New Milford Hospitals - in partnership with Ann's Place and the American Cancer Society, will celebrate the Annual National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Cancer survivors and a guest are invited to attend the celebration of life at the Ethan Allen Hotel located at 21 Lake Avenue in Danbury.
Featured Guest Speaker
Enjoy the morning having breakfast with friends while making new connections, and laugh along with this year's featured and returning speaker, Dr. Dan Shapiro.
Dan Shapiro, Ph.D. is the Garner James Kline Professor of Humanities in Medicine and Chair of the Department of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine. Dr. Shapiro earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Florida and went on to Harvard Medical School where he completed an internship and an endowed post-doctoral fellowship.
He has been featured on national TV and in numerous publications. He is also a consultant to the hit television show "Grey's Anatomy" and was consultant previously for "Private Practice." Dr. Shapiro has written three books: "Moms Marijuana," "Delivering Doctor Amelia," and his newest, "And in Health, A Guide for Couples Facing Cancer Together." Having beaten Hodgkin's Lymphoma in his twenties, and been the caregiver to his wife, who had a serious breast cancer, he's been on both sides of the bed. Realizing how difficult it is to be in either position, he researched how couples respond. The result of that work is his most recent book. It is also the topic of his speech for cancer survivors and caregivers, which he delivers, as always, in a very entertaining way.
Check-In: 8:30 a.m.
Program begins at 9:00 a.m.
Registration for this limited seating event is required by May 27th. Please call Ann's Place at (203) 790-6568, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
