Level II Trauma Center
The staff of the Trauma Center Level II at Danbury Hospital are responsible for marshalling the expertise among hundreds of health professionals throughout Danbury Hospital to respond to trauma emergencies. A core team of professionals – including doctors, nurses and other experts – ensure delivery of all necessary care and technology according to policies, standards of care, and the specific needs of every trauma patient. The trauma staff includes:
Joseph Gordon, MD, FACS, Trauma Medical Director
Appointed to oversee the trauma program in 2006, Dr. Gordon is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center. He is board certified in surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Elizabeth Denby-Callahan, RN, BS, CEN, CEPN, Trauma Program Manager
Elizabeth Denby-Callahan develops trauma standards of care and protocols, while monitoring the effectiveness of the trauma program in collaboration with Dr. Gordon. She is a liaison to the medical staff, patients and families, and coordinates community outreach on injury prevention.
Laurie E. O’Brien, LPN, Trauma Registrar
Laurie E. O’Brien maintains the trauma registry by collecting comprehensive, accurate data for required internal, state and national data repositories. She coordinates reporting and supports the trauma medical director and trauma program manager.
