The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology works closely with numerous specialties including maternal-fetal medicine, prenatal genetic counseling, anesthesiology, nursing, neonatology, pediatrics, the OB/GYN medical education residency program, and other medical departments.

Researching Women’s Health

Women also have access to a higher level of obstetrical/gynecological care through the Reproductive Tumor Biology Laboratory.

A dynamic team of internationally renowned physician scientists, known for their groundbreaking work in the fields of cancer and proteomics, has been assembled—led by Shohreh Shahabi, M.D., Chair, Reproductive Tumor Biology Laboratory and Chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, and Cristiano Ferlini, M.D., Ph.D., a world-renowned cancer researcher as Director of the Reproductive Tumor Biology Laboratory.

With its major focus on Cancer Research, The Reproductive Tumor Biology Laboratory will investigate new mechanisms of cancer development with the goal of improvement of cancer treatment and drug discovery.  Scientists are working  to bring research findings to clinical settings as quickly and safely as possible. 

Neonatal and Pediatric Care

The Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides continuous life support and comprehensive care for premature infants as young as 23 weeks and babies with complex and critical illness. Additional resources include the hospital’s pediatric inpatient program and the Children’s Health and Wellness Center, which brings multiple pediatric specialties together at one location.

Advancing Community Health

The Women’s Health Center provides gynecological and obstetric care to women with limited financial resources as part of the hospital’s mission to advance the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Participation in Vermont Oxford Network

Danbury Hospital is part of the Vermont Oxford Network (VON), a non-profit voluntary collaboration of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the quality and safety of care for newborns and their families. Established in 1988, the Network includes more than 800 neonatal intensive care units worldwide. Danbury Hospital participates in clinical trials, long-term follow-up studies and epidemiologic and outcomes research. Members can also take part in quality improvement collaboratives for neonatology to identify and implement practices that enhance quality and safety.
