Our doctors and nurses are highly trained in all aspects of maternal and child health, including certification in obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology and breastfeeding support. This outstanding team of professionals will help make the birth of your baby a safe, memorable and comfortable experience.
At the Danbury Hospital Family Birth Center, family involvement in the birth process has been a long-standing tradition. We encourage a close family member and/or friend to support you during your childbirth experience.
Your Hospital Stay
At the Family Birth Center, you will experience the safety of a hospital setting in a private, comfortable environment.
When you arrive, you'll be escorted to one of our private rooms where labor, delivery, and recovery take place. Each room has its own bathroom and shower, color TV, private phone, and couch, and a large Jacuzzi tub. The latest medical technology close at hand in every room
The Information Desk staff at Danbury Hospital will not release information about your status or your baby's status during labor and delivery. We recommend that one of your labor coaches keep family members informed about your progress.
Operating Rooms, Pain Management and Recovery
Deliveries involving surgical procedures take place in one of the two dedicated operating rooms on the maternity unit staffed by registered nurses, certified scrub technicians and assistants.
Our anesthesia service is available 24 hours hours a day, seven days a week. It's best to discuss alternatives for pain management during labor with your physician early in your pregnancy. Pain management options include:
- Lamaze or Bradley methods
- Position changes
- Breathing exercises
- Whirlpool tub and showers
- Massage, aromatherapy and other integrative medicine services
- IV medications
- Local or regional anesthetics, such as epidural anesthesia
- Patient-controlled analgesics (PCA) if you deliver by Cesarean section
After surgery, patients are taken to the adjacent Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU/Recovery Room) staffed by registered nurses.
