The Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program at Danbury Hospital includes DSME classes, individual sessions and specialized classes . The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Education. The program instructors are registered dietitians and nurses who are also certified diabetes educators.
Group Education consists of a series of four classes each with a specific area of focus. Classes are interactive and aimed at providing you with the information you will need to minimize complications and maximize your quality of life. The classes are offered monthly. We offer both daytime and evening sessions.
The Diabetes Self-Management Education program may be beneficial to anyone with diabetes, Type 1 or Type 2, newly diagnosed or longstanding. Studies show that people attending a diabetes education program:

Course Cost and Payment Options
Medicare and most CT and NY health plans recognize the benefits of an ADA-recognized education program. A co-pay may apply. Please contact our office and we will be happy to discuss your insurance. We can assist you with referral paperwork (a doctor’s order is required). Payment options include cash, check, money order or credit card.
We offer a complimentary meal served at the start of each class and you are more than welcome to bring your spouse or other family members who help with your diabetes care– at no extra charge.

Insulin Pump Classes
Are you interested in an insulin pump or continuous glucose monitoring system (sensor)? Come to our informational class, held monthly – class days and times vary each month. Our classes will help you learn about all the options available so you can make an informed choice. Demonstration pumps will be available for hands-on practice.
