Surgical Oncology

Our expert surgeons at the Praxair Cancer Center, many of whom are fellowship-trained, offer some of the most innovative procedures for cancer, including:

  • Colon and Rectal Surgery: Minimally invasive techniques including laparoscopic colon resection and pre-operative staging with endoscopic ultrasound
  • Breast Surgery: Minimally invasive biopsy diagnostic procedures, breast conservation with lumpectomy, mastectomy (including skin-sparing procedure), reconstructive procedures, and sentinel node biopsy
  • Liver, Pancreas and Biliary Surgery: Malignancies of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts, including pump treatment of liver tumors and minimally invasive procedures
  • Thoracic Surgery: Treatment of lung and esophageal cancers including major airway tumor surgery with lasers and stents, photodynamic, and video-assisted thorascopic surgery (VATS)
  • Urological Surgery: For bladder, prostate, kidney, testicular, and kidney malignancies, including bladder tumor removal, continent urinary diversions, robotic radical prostatectomy, prostate seed implant (brachytherapy), and partial/laparoscopic/hand-assisted removal of the kidney
  • Head and Neck/ENT Surgery: Treatment for all cancers of the ear, nose, and throat
  • Gynecologic Surgery: Treats cancer of the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovary. Many gynecological surgeries are performed using minimally invasive procedures, including robotic-assisted technology.     
  • Neurosurgery: Includes image-guided surgery, intracranial tumor specialists
  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Offers a full range of reconstructive procedures, including breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients

Danbury Hospital has established The Carmen Lucia and Peter Buck Center for Robotic Surgery, which features state-of-the-art robotic technology. This allows many surgeries to be performed using minimally invasive procedures, allowing for less pain, fewer complications, and faster recovery times.
