Discharge and Going Home

Your doctor will determine when you are ready to leave the hospital. Your doctor will prepare your discharge order. Your health care team will prepare you for discharge during your hospital stay. You may want to make arrangements with a family member or friend to help you when it is time to go home.

Discharge Time

Discharge times vary for each patient depending upon the care they received and will need when they go home. Most patients are discharged by 11:00 AM. You should discuss your discharge time with your doctor the day before you are scheduled to go home.

Discharge Information

Your doctor and nurse will give you instructions and talk to you about your post-hospital care. If you have any questions about your diet, medications, activities or something else, please be sure to ask a member of your health care team before you leave the hospital. Your care team will also give you contact information if you have questions about your care after you go home.

Your Ride Home

Ask the person who is going to drive you home to park in the visitor parking area of the Blue Parking Garage. When you are ready for discharge, the person driving you home may bring the car to the main lobby entrance area of the Tower building. If you need assistance, a staff member may escort you to the lobby and help you to your car.
