Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency

Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Danbury Hospital. The Danbury Hospital Ob/Gyn Residency Program is a 4-year ACGME-accredited residency with 3 categorical residents each year. Our program offers a diverse, hands-on clinical experience in a nurturing environment of a 370+-bed medical center. Each resident’s educational experience is enhanced by strong core didactics. Our mission is to provide highest quality patient-centered care, to educate our residents, and to conduct innovative research. Our department conducts clinical, translational, and basic science research. Our faculty and residents have been recognized locally and nationally for research excellence.

Our dedicated faculty is on duty in the hospital at all times to provide residents with supervision and immediate consultation. Our faculty staff has an excellent representation in all areas of sub-specialization including;

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Reproductive Endocrinology
  • Female Pelvic Floor Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

In addition to excellent sub-specialists, rotations through Yale provide an increased academic experience for our residents.Recently Danbury Hospital has gained a clinical campus affiliation with University of Vermont

Danbury Hospital has opened its latest addition: an $8 million Level IIIB neonatal intensive care unit for premature babies that is quadruple the size of the old unit.Also a $125 million patient care facility expansion is due to be completed in 2014 in order to provide a patient-centered environment with the most advanced programs and technology.

Treating all complex and benign gynecological issues, Dr. Shahabi is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Shahabi and her team offer a multidisciplinary approach that offers patients the skill and special expertise of many for optimal outcomes.

A noted surgeon, researcher, teacher and author, Dr. Shahabi brings a wide range of experiences to her gynecologic work. Before joining Danbury Hospital, Dr. Shahabi was director of gynecologic oncology division and head of the Gynecologic Oncology Research Laboratory, Moses Division at Montefiore Medical Center, which is part of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
