Additional Resources


(Note: This provision only applies to first year residents; no housing or housing subsidy is provided after the first year.) The incoming, first-year Resident is provided rent-free housing, as available, by means of a lottery; first-year Residents who participate in the lottery but who are not provided housing through the lottery will receive a housing subsidy that is equivalent in value to the cost of the housing provided through the lottery. The rental is established by separate agreement. Details about the lottery are available from the Medical Education Office. First-year residents who do not participate in the housing lottery will not receive a subsidy.

Health and Dental Insurance

There are three medical plans as well as a dental plan from which the resident may choose. The Resident pays a portion of the cost of medical insurance, the amount of which varies with the plan selected and whether the Resident desires family coverage. It is the Resident’s responsibility to select and enroll in the medical and dental plan of his/her choice.

Life Insurance

The Resident is covered with life insurance, as well as Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, in an amount equal to one and one-half times the Resident’s annual salary.

Disability Insurance

Disability insurance is also offered as income protection for illnesses and injury of prolonged duration.

Travel Accident Insurance

The Resident is covered in the amount of $50,000 for travel accidents while on Hospital or Program business, excluding travel to and from home.

Confidential Support Services

The Hospital will facilitate the Resident’s access to appropriate and confidential counseling, medical, and psychological support services.

Physician Impairment and Substance Abuse Education

The Hospital agrees to provide the Resident with an educational program regarding physician impairment, including substance abuse, and shall inform the Resident of the Hospital’s policies for handling physician impairment, including impairment from substance abuse.
