New Milford Hospital Healthy Eating Program to be Featured at Jewish Community Center Luncheon

NEW MILFORD, Connecticut – June 14, 2016 - Michele MacDonnell, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist at New Milford Hospital, will speak about Healthy Eating the Plow To Plate Way at the Jewish Community Center in Sherman on Sunday, June 26th at 12:30 pm. Reservations are required and must be made by June 23rd

MacDonnell will review the main concepts of healthy eating and how this information relates to disease prevention. She will address the benefits of eating a mostly plant-based diet consisting of non-processed whole foods. The presentation will also provide simple strategies for putting the recommendations together and incorporating this knowledge into your daily lifestyle.

“Eating a balanced diet and enjoying the foods we eat are important considerations for our physical and emotional health, said MacDonnell. “It is also beneficial to buy local. The foods are fresher, taste better, and are higher in nutrients.”

Your local food purchases support farming communities and sustainable agriculture, which offers innovative and economically viable opportunities for growers, laborers, consumers, and others in the food system.

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) recognized the New Milford Hospital Plow to Plate® Program last year with a 2015 Connecticut Hospital Community Service Award. The award is sponsored by CHA and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Cost to attend the program is $20 per person. To register, go to www.jccinsherman.org, or call 860-355-8050.
