Sudden cardiac arrest can happen at any age. For a healthy 17 year old Westport student who suddenly experienced cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) meant the difference between life and death. While first responders rushed to the site, Mark Gudis rushed to his car to get his AED, which steered helping bystanders to restore his heartbeat.
This terrifying experience inspired Mark and Marylou Gudis to donate 100 of these life-saving instruments to surrounding communities. As part of this generous gift, Norwalk Hospital is launching an initiative to provide education on emergency heart care and preparedness.
